Non-Destructive Testing (NDT)

At Techneering Limited (TL), our experienced team operates globally and provides a full range of services on non-destructive testing (NDT) and inspection services. Diversified services such as Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI), Dye Penetrant Inspection (DPI), Visual Inspection, ultrasonic, eddy-current, Industrial Radiography, and Tank Inspection. Below are the various types of NDT services that we provide frequently as explained in detail.

TL makes use of this NDT as one of the broad group of analysis techniques used in the science and technology industry to evaluate the properties of a material, component, or system without causing damage.

Magnetic Particle Inspection MPI or Crack Testing

Our technicians use this NDT process for detecting surface and shallow subsurface discontinuities in ferromagnetic materials such as iron, nickel, cobalt, and some of their alloys. The Techneering limited technician will perform MPI on a pipeline to check for stress corrosion cracking, using what is known as the “black and white” method (black magnetic ink and white contrast paint) and magnetic yoke. Black magnetic ink and white contrast paint are known as consumables.

Dye penetrant inspection (DPI) or liquid penetrant inspection (LPI) or penetrant testing (PT)

DPI is one of the NDT services provided by Techneering limited across the United Kingdom. Our technicians use this method to check surface-breaking defects, in all non-porous materials (metals, plastics, or ceramics). We also use this method to reveal surface breaking flaws, by bleed out of a coloured or fluorescent dye from the flaw. We apply penetrant inspection to only non-porous materials.

TL uses the following steps for liquid penetrant inspection such as pre-cleaning, application of penetrant, excess Penetrant removal, application of developer, inspection, and post-cleaning

Visual Inspection

We are poised to deliver this method extensively, in order to evaluate the condition or the quality of a weld or component. Our track record shows the application of economic principles and budgeting, and subsequently carry out, inexpensive projects, which usually would not require special equipment. This is good news for our clients.

Our inspectors use visual inspection for the inspection of welds and other components, where quick detection and the correction of flaws or process-related problems, can result in significant cost savings. During the visual inspection, we require good vision, good lighting, and the necessary expertise to recognize flaws and process problems.

Eddy-Current Testing

Techneering Limited uses this method as one of many electromagnetic testing methods used in non-destructive testing (NDT). We make use of electromagnetic induction to detect and characterize surface and sub-surface flaws in conductive materials.

Radiography

Industrial radiography is one of our major areas of expertise. This is a modality of non-destructive testing that uses ionising radiation, to inspect materials and components, with the objective of locating and quantifying defects and degradation in material properties. Our major focus here is to carry out applicable procedures, that would stop the possible failure of engineering structures. Also, completion of related projects is our way of encouraging the important role of this method, in the science and technology needed to ensure product quality and reliability.

Ultrasonic testing (UT)

Techneering Limited uses this technique to determine the test object’s thickness, for example, to monitor pipework corrosion. This ultrasonic testing uses sound waves of short wavelength and high frequency to detect flaws or measure material thickness. Such mechanical waves can travel large distances in fine-grain metal, in the form of a divergent wave with progressive attenuation.

We use this Ultrasonic testing often to perform on steel and other metals and alloys. It is a form of non-destructive testing used in many industries, including power generation, aerospace, steel fabrication, automotive, and other transportation sectors. Some of the advantages are high penetrating power, which allows the detection of flaws deep in part. High sensitivity, permitting the detection of microscopic defects. Only one surface needs to be accessible.

Pipeline Construction

Techneering Limited monitor and supervise pipeline fabrications and welding to meet industry standards, API 1104, and specifications, while ensuring the work scope adheres during fabrication and construction. We take ownership of reviewing the design/analysis of pipeline construction and fabrication works in accordance with the technical requirements/standards & regulations. We also review maps of pipeline fence damage, coordinate with pipeline owners to ensure a standardised approach to the design and installation of warning signs. We also ensure pipeline slab protection is used where required, identify pipelines that require rehab, and coordinate periodic visits.
